About The Position

OpenDor Media is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, experienced educator who is passionate about engaging students of diverse backgrounds in conversations around Israel-Palestine, antisemitism, Jewish history, courageous conversations, and media literacy. 

This person will serve as the director of our educational initiatives and the lead educator for our 12 participating schools based in NY, NJ, and CT for our newest division, ConnectED. ConnectED provides videos, curriculum, and programs on these subjects for independent and public schools, grades 6-12, with the goal of fostering literacy, empathy, understanding, and skills for respectful dialogue.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned educator and curriculum developer, enthusiastic about helping educators utilize our tools to engage students in these important subjects. The Director of Education reports to the Program Director of ConnectED and will be a key member of our team. 

As the Director of Education, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational experiences of students and faculty, promoting critical thinking and respectful dialogue on complex issues. This is a remote position with required in-person teaching and program facilitation at schools in NY, NJ, and CT.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead educational programs and assemblies for students, faculty, and parents at our 12 participating schools in NY, NJ, and CT, and schools in other states as needed
  • Meet with school administrators to discuss programs and provide strategic advice as needed and support faculty to integrate our content into their classrooms, and build strong relationships with schools
  • Develop all programs, including professional development sessions, student and parent programs, webinars, and the speaker bureau, working closely with the Program Director
  • Create and review lesson plans and educational resources to accompany our ConnectED videos
  • Facilitate the ConnectED Google Group community, posting discussion questions and announcements
  • Write communications and emails to the cohort 
  • Upload new resources to the ConnectED platform
  • Present at conferences and educational events when needed

Requirements

  • Educational Expertise: Experienced educator and thought leader with a minimum of three years in a management role, specializing in education of our core subjects.
  • Curriculum Development: Expertise in designing and implementing curriculum and instructional strategies for grades 6-12. Strong ability to adapt curriculum to diverse educational environments and student needs.
  • Subject Matter Knowledge: Passionate and knowledgeable about our core subject areas: Israel-Palestine, antisemitism, Jewish history, courageous conversations, and media literacy.
  • Strong Facilitation Skills: Experience facilitating discussions on sensitive or complex topics in educational settings.
  • Curricular Models: Familiarity with different curricular frameworks, such as Understanding By Design (UbD) and Project-Based Learning (PBL).
  • Secular Experience: Personal and professional experience in the secular world, providing a well-rounded perspective.
  • Mission Alignment: Belief in our educational approach of nuance, complexity, empathy, and equipping students with skills for respectful dialogue.
  • Collaborative Team Player: Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple priorities.
  • Tech Savviness: Strong working knowledge with Google Suite. Pardot, WordPress, Salesforce, and Google Suite knowledge is a plus but not necessarily required.

Salary

Our target salary range for this position when based in New York is $115,000-$130,000 annually. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate's exact location, experience in similar roles, and expertise related to the qualifications.
